We have all new flooring and carpet in our coach, installed by Ernie Ekberg at his place in Weatherford TX. We selected a bamboo flooring from Lumber Liquidators in Ft Worth, and a good quality carpet from Lucky's Flooring in Weatherford, as well as the best RV flooring installer in the business, Ernie.We had never intended to buy bamboo flooring, but the Morning Star bamboo flooring is tough and durable. We picked out the unstained Natural for a lighter flooring.

ReplyDeleteThanks. We'll be heading to FL in a week or two, with plans for sea kayaking. We'll start in the FL panhandle using military campgrounds, then eventually start heading towards the FL Keys. I plan to get the FL State Parks annual pass.

I can't help asking, how much?
ReplyDeleteIf you go to Ernie's place in Weatherford TX, he gets $300 a day for labor, tools, and minor materials (current rate - subject to increases). You buy the carpet, flooring, glue, etc locally (Ernie can provide advice and can haul it for you).
ReplyDeleteYou can park on his property with 50 amp and water provided at no charge. We lived in the coach while the work was done, which requires adapting to the flow of work.
If he comes to you, you pay his Bluebird fuel and provide a place to work and park the coach. Many times 3-4 people in one area get together and split his fuel costs etc. He's headed to Iowa right now doing just that.
How many days it takes just depends on the coach, how much work you do with him or in advance, materials you pick out etc.
On our coach, removing and re-installing all furniture that could be unbolted, pulling carpet and a ton of staples, and worst of all beating/chizeling out the very tough ceramic tile in bath and kitchen, scraping out all glues etc took over 3 days alone. If you do all that in advance or with Ernie it would reduce the time.
Our total with materials we bought, and Ernies time was $3300. We plan to keep our coach a long time and fulltime a long time, so it is well worth it to us.

ReplyDeleteLooks great! Curious, how has the bamboo held up over the last 18 months? Shrink and expansion an issue? Any curling? Thinking of using it on my RV. Thanks. Kevin
ReplyDeleteShrinking and contraction is no issue, and no curling. Our installer is very particular about the glue he uses, and does not do floating floors in RVs.
ReplyDeleteThere are some scratches, which is pretty much a given fulltiming with 4 cats. When they run or skid to a stop they can leave tiny scratches.
After the fact, research showed us there was a type of construction of bamboo flooring that is harder and more scratch resistant than the one we chose. It would have been worth an additional expense for a harder bamboo. However, no regrets on changing to this flooring.
